Hello and welcome to the Let's Learn This blog!
This blog is dedicated to anyone who is interested in learning another language. I aim to use this blog as a summary of my studies, and as a guide for anybody who wants to learn a language in tandem with myself! I will try to post weekly, and will treat my studies as if I were in an American university language course, using language-learning textbooks to supplement my studies. I will comb through these textbooks, one book, and one chapter at a time as if I were a student myself. Each week will be a summary of the chapter that I've reviewed previously, including textbook and workbook exercises, where applicable. When necessary, I will also try to upload audio samples of my speech, as well.
Per copyright laws, I will *NOT* be sharing copies of either the textbooks or the workbooks that I will be using, but I will reference the material as I come across it. Nor will I give links to where you could find them for free. (I'm not looking to get sued here!) :)
I'll be leaving the comments on each post so as to allow for corrections and recommendations, or any feedback you readers would like to provide.
That being said, I am NOT a native-level speaker of any language that I'm reviewing. As such, I don't recommend using this blog as the sole means of learning a language, but rather as a supplement to your own learning.
On top of summary posts, I will also provide links to whatever supplemental material that can be accessed free to help with the lessons (i.e. audio samples, Youtube clips, etc. etc.).
So that's the gist of the blog. If you have any questions, leave me a comment! But now, I think it's time to introduce myself to you.
My name is Thomas, and I'm an American-born, quarter-Japanese student currently living in Florida. I graduated from Florida State University in 2014 with a B.A. in Japanese Language and Culture with a minor in Linguistics, a second B.A. in German and Spanish and a third B.A. in French and Italian.
I graduated from the Monterey Institute of International Studies with my M.A. in German Translation in 2017.
Yes, I speak all of these languages.
Yes, I can read all of these languages.
Yes, I try to use these languages as much as I can. :)
So that's me! I hope you all find this blog useful and that I can find other polyglots/language enthusiasts so we can help each other learn!!!
